For nearly 20 years my family and I experienced food insecurity. I watched as my grandparents budgeted their food stamps, as my dad worked long hours and as my mother searched for housing. Often, we sought out community organizations to help supplement food, clothing, school supplies and many more things. At a young age I was inspired to help. I wanted to give back to my family first and as I grew older, I quickly understood there was a larger community experiencing similar challenges who I could also work to uplift. Regardless of the circumstances it was always instilled in me to rise above and find joy in life. I love to laugh with others, celebrate and learn new things. I am proud of my Mexican culture; I love to cook, and I love to build community wherever I go. Community is the zest of life, and I am beyond grateful my journey has brought me to Metro Caring. I am here to serve and to work alongside my community members to end hunger at its root causes.
