Metro Caring is exploring an expansion of our site at 1100 E. 18th Avenue to advance our mission of working with our community to meet people’s immediate needs for nutritious food and building a movement to end hunger at its root.

Our community shared that the lack of affordable housing is a top reason people face food insecurity. To leverage our existing site, we are proposing a redevelopment of our building to an 8-story, mixed-use facility with 30,000 square feet of expanded programming space and 139 affordable apartments.

Metro Caring’s Community Advisory Board and staff will host a public hearing to share the vision and design of the proposed project, and we invite you to attend. This event will have English and Spanish interpretation and will be video recorded.

Local caterer DC Eats will be selling summer cookout food, and Metro Caring will purchase hot dogs for the first 100 attendees to arrive at the event. Additional food will be available for purchase. Produce from our Fresh Foods Market will be available to the community for free.
