Empowering a Dream | A Letter from Community on Colorado Gives Day
Dear Metro Caring Community,
With Colorado Gives Day coming up, I want to share my story and ask you to support Metro Caring, an organization that has played an important part in my life.
When I first moved to Colorado, it was very difficult to find an affordable place to live. With all the application fees and deposits, I couldn't afford nutritious food for me and my kids. The hospital told me about Metro Caring, and I started shopping in the Fresh Foods Market.
Then, in 2019, I joined nutrition classes, where I learned a lot and found a good community of support. This inspired me to become a volunteer, and eventually, I had the opportunity to receive training to lead diabetes classes. It has totally changed me because now I know that I can help other people.
Metro Caring has empowered me to pursue my own dreams of launching a business, ByLiz Natural Organic Cosmetics. I was inspired to start this business by my mom, who would use natural remedies to care for me when I was young because it was all we could afford. I went on to study pharmacy, biology, and chemistry, and I was always curious about how natural and organic ingredients could work with medicine. This inspired me to want to run my own natural products business using organically grown ingredients, such as lavender and rosemary. The Mastermind Circle at Metro Caring helped me get my business started, teaching me about business plans, finances, and marketing. I am excited that ByLiz Natural Organic Cosmetics is growing! I now have my own space to grow plants needed for my products, and I hope to create employment opportunities for other women in my community.
The great support that I received and continue to receive from Metro Caring has made it possible for my dream to come true. Metro Caring totally changed my life and has given me the opportunity to be more involved in the community. Now I’m part of Metro Caring’s Community Advisory Board to find ways we can create affordable housing, so people don’t have to struggle like I did.
This Colorado Gives Day, I hope you will support us at Metro Caring. Your generous contributions will help provide invaluable services to our community, empowering people like me to achieve our dreams while building up our community wealth so that fewer people face hunger.
Metro Caring has strengthened my mission and vision for helping the community. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
