Meet Jose Navarro - Metro Caring's very own Volunteer Program Coordinator!

Hola! My name is Jose Navarro, and I am the Volunteer Coordinator at Metro Caring. I was born and raised in Anaheim, California, which explains my obsession with Disney. I moved to Thornton, Colorado when I was in 4th grade and been here ever since. I discovered Metro Caring in 2018 when I was doing my research on different nonprofits that made an impact with communities. I love the fact that we make a difference in someone’s everyday life, but can also make a meaningful connection with participants and volunteers when doing so.

Currently, my job consists of building relationships and getting the community involved. With the support of my coworkers, we oversee Team Volunteer, our volunteer program, which is a vital program for our operations. 

We always say this, but we truly could not do what we do without the support of our community and volunteers.

During this pandemic, I like to go out on walks with my two dogs Nova and Lukas. They truly take up most of my time. I cannot wait to visit my parents and family again!

For me, this month is extra special because Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15 to October 15, with many Latin American countries Independence Day’s falling within this 30-day period.

I honor my heritage in many ways. I love to eat. Food brings family together, but in these times, I am learning how to cook my mom’s recipes and keep trying to perfect them. My goal is to have a cookbook with all her recipes because cooking and knowing how to cook brings us together. We are able to share our culture and heritage through food and give each other nourishment. My current obsession is TACOS!

In addition, to honor the Hispanic Heritage this month for me is to VOTE - using my voice to advocate for my Latinx community whenever I can, doing my part for the ones that do not have the ability to vote. Please register to vote!
